[DC] The Pig: Bourbon Happy Hour and Face Bacon

Recommendation: 75%

When browsing the restaurants and reviews in DC, this place caught my eyes. Happy Hour everyday at the bar with Bourbons and pork from any portion of the pig including face bacon. Sounds really tempting!! I have never tried face bacon before and that with drinks seems to be a fun combination.

The restaurant is located not far away from the Metro stations (Red, Orange, or Blue.) Once you walk closer, when you see this cute little pig on the window, then you have reached your destination.

We visited on a weekend afternoon. The Happy Hours on weekends are 3-7 pm only at the bar area.

The bar area is actually quite big with 20-25 seats. However, it was really packed up when we arrived there around 5 pm. There are dining tables as well, but the happy hours are only available at the bar.

At the bar area you can order from both the happy hour menu or the full dinner menu. We only tried the things on the Happy Hour Menu this time.

A flight of all 4 Bourbons ($8)

This gets you all four little shots (?) of Bourbon choice of the week. It was Filibuster Bourbon, Fighting Cock, Rowan’s Creek, and another is the bartender’s choice which I forgot to take note of that one.

Based on J’s tasting, these bourbons definitely overturn his impression of bourbon being really spicy and smoky. Instead, they are a lot smoother than he expected, very aromatic, and some with a little more sweetness.

However, with the price of $8, the 4 little sips of bourbon seem to be a little pricy.

The Burger ($10)

Yum!!!

For people who are afraid of the texture or taste of pork skin or pork fat, the face bacon may not be your favorite things to try. However, I love the soft and sticky texture of face bacon which adds a creamy and smoky flavor to the burger. The 80/20 patty is grilled just right and really juicy, plus the marmalade onion and melted cheese. This burger just melt in your mouth from the first bite.

The reason why I didn’t rate a higher recommendation?

It’s simply because of the price. The food & drinks are really good but I would just have a second thought of whether it really worth the price?

Afterall, it’s DC, isn’t it?
